Rajma Masala - Instant Pot Recipe

A flavorful North Indian dish made with red kidney beans cooked in a rich, spiced tomato and onion gravy using an Instant Pot.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Rajma (Red Kidney Beans) (Soak overnight)
  • 2 medium Onions (Medium size)
  • 3 medium Tomatoes (Medium size)
  • 3 count Green Chillies
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1 bunch Coriander Leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 2 tablespoons Red Chilli Powder (Adjust to your spice level)
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander Powder
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 0 as needed Water (To cover the rajma)

Instructions

  1. 1Set the Instant Pot to sauté mode and add oil. Once hot, add cumin seeds and sauté for about 10 seconds. Add onions and sauté until they become translucent, approximately 3-4 minutes.
  2. 2Add the tomatoes to the pot and sauté until they become soft and mushy, about 3 minutes.
  3. 3Incorporate all the spices from the spices section into the pot. Sauté for a few minutes to blend the flavors.
  4. 4Add the soaked rajma to the pot. Mix well and add enough water to cover the beans. Secure the lid, set the Instant Pot to Beans mode, and cook for 45 minutes. Allow the pressure to release naturally.
  5. 5Stir in the coriander leaves and mix well. Serve hot with rice or chapati.
