A traditional Tamil dish featuring okra cooked in a tangy tamarind sauce with a blend of spices, perfect for serving with rice.
Instructions
- 1Slit each okra vertically twice to create four lengthwise strips. Finely chop all the slit pieces.
- 2Heat oil in a kadai and add curry leaves. Add the chopped okra and fry until light golden brown, ensuring all sliminess is gone. Set aside to cool.
- 3In a mixer grinder, combine shredded coconut, mustard seeds, and green chillies. Grind without water first, then add half a cup of water and grind again to achieve a smooth paste.
- 4Mix the coconut paste and yogurt with the fried okra until well combined.
- 5Heat coconut oil in a small pan. Once hot, add urad dal and dry red chillies, frying until the dal is golden.
- 6Serve the dish as a side with rice and any curry. The tempering should be poured over the dish just before serving.
