Pacha Kaaya Thoran/Raw Plantain Stir Fry
This is a simple and tasty Kerala side dish for rice which is very healthy too!
Ingredients
- 2 units Raw Plantain (Peel off the skin and clean well, then cut into small pieces.)
- 0.5 unit Onions (Half of a medium-sized onion, finely sliced.)
- 2 units Green Chillies (Finely sliced.)
- 1 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
- 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- 3 tablespoons Coconut Oil
- 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
- 0.5 handful Curry Leaves
- 2 units Dry Red Chillies
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 0.25 cup Water (For cooking the plantain.)
Instructions
- 1In a pressure cooker, combine the finely cut raw plantain, onion, and green chillies. Add turmeric powder, salt, and a little water. Cook for 4 whistles. If using a different pan or slow cooker, cook for 15 minutes.
- 2In another pan, heat coconut oil. Once hot, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and dry red chillies. Allow the mustard seeds to splutter.
- 3Immediately transfer the tempering to the cooked plantain mixture. Stir well to combine. The raw plantain stir fry is ready to be enjoyed with rice.
