Mung Bean Kheer/Cherupayar Payasam

Try this yummy and healthy payasam which is very simple to make!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole Mung Beans (Also known as Green Gram, Sabut Moong, Green Moong)
  • 0.5 cup Sugar (Can substitute with jaggery solution)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cardamom Powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cumin Powder (Also known as Jeera Powder)
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut (Shredded)
  • 1 cup Whole Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Ghee
  • 3 count Cashews
  • 4 count Raisins
  • 3 cups Water (For cooking mung beans)

Instructions

  1. 1Soak the green mung beans for 3-4 hours. Rinse thoroughly and place them in a pressure cooker with 3 cups of water. Cook for 4 whistles.
  2. 2Once the pressure is released, remove the lid and set the flame to low. Stir the cooked mung beans and lightly mash them with a spatula.
  3. 3Add cumin powder, shredded coconut, sugar, cardamom powder, and milk to the mung beans. Mix well and cook on medium heat until the mixture thickens.
  4. 4In a separate pan, heat ghee over medium flame. Add cashews and raisins, sauté until golden. Transfer to the mung bean payasam and mix well.
  5. 5Serve the delicious green mung bean payasam warm. Enjoy this delightful dessert!
