Black Halwa/Karutha Aluva
This is a very sweet recipe which is very simple and yummy!
Ingredients
- 1 cup Rice flour (White rice or parboiled rice can be taken)
- 6 cups Coconut milk
- 1.5 cups Jaggery powder
- 1 cup Ghee
- 1 teaspoon Cardamom powder
- 2 tablespoons Sugar
- 2 teaspoons Cashew nuts, chopped
- 0.5 cup Water (For melting jaggery)
Instructions
- 1In a mixing bowl, combine one cup of rice flour with six cups of coconut milk, adding the milk gradually to avoid lumps. Mix until smooth.
- 2In a pan over low heat, combine jaggery powder with half a cup of water. Stir until the jaggery is completely melted.
- 3Add the rice flour-coconut milk mixture to the melted jaggery in the pan. Stir continuously over low heat until the mixture begins to thicken.
- 4Gradually add four tablespoons of ghee to the thickening mixture, stirring continuously. Add cardamom powder and sugar, and continue to stir.
- 5Add chopped cashew nuts to the mixture. Continue stirring until the mixture turns dark brown, the ghee separates, and it leaves the sides of the pan.
- 6Transfer the mixture to a plate or mold greased with ghee. Spread evenly and garnish with additional chopped cashew nuts. Allow to cool completely for 4-5 hours before cutting into desired shapes.
