Tapioca Side Dish
A traditional Kerala-style tapioca side dish, cooked with spices and coconut, offering a delightful accompaniment to fish curry.
Ingredients
- 2 units Tapioca (Medium-sized, chopped)
- 2 teaspoons Red chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric
- 1 tablespoon Salt
- 4 cups Water (For boiling and cooking)
- 2 cups Coconut, shredded
- 4 tablespoons Coconut oil
- 1 unit White onions (Chopped)
- 4 units Garlic flakes (Smashed)
- 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
- 2 units Dry red chillies
- 2 sprigs Curry leaves

Instructions
- 1In a vessel, add water and the chopped tapioca. Boil until tender, then drain the water.
- 2Transfer the boiled tapioca to a pressure cooker. Add enough water to immerse it, along with turmeric, red chilli powder, and salt. Cook for 2 whistles.
- 3Once the pressure cooker has cooled, add shredded coconut to the tapioca and mix well. In a separate pan, heat coconut oil and add mustard seeds, dry red chillies, chopped onions, smashed garlic, and curry leaves. Pour this seasoning over the tapioca and mix thoroughly.
