A classic 19th-century cobbler cocktail made with sherry, rum, and maraschino liqueur, served over crushed ice with fresh orange slices and enjoyed through a straw.

Ingredients

  • 3 oz Sherry (Two wineglassfuls, approximately 3 oz total)
  • 0.75 oz Rum, preferably dark or gold (Half a wineglassful)
  • 0.75 oz Maraschino liqueur (Half a wineglassful)
  • 0.5 whole Orange, sliced thin (Half an orange)
  • 1 cup Crushed ice (Enough to fill the tumbler)

Instructions

  1. 1Slice half an orange into thin rounds or half-moons, removing any seeds.
  2. 2Pour the sherry, rum, and maraschino liqueur into a tumbler or large glass. Add the sliced orange pieces.
  3. 3Fill the tumbler to the top with crushed ice, packing it gently.
  4. 4Insert a straw (reed, quill, or modern drinking straw) into the drink and serve immediately. Sip through the straw to enjoy the chilled, diluted cocktail.
