OLD FASHION COCKTAIL
This classic 1917 rendition of the Old Fashioned cocktail delivers a bold, spirit-forward experience characteristic of the pre-Prohibition era. Rich Bourbon whiskey is perfectly balanced with the aromatic complexity of Angostura bitters and a touch of sweetness from dissolved sugar. Served over a large lump of ice with a zesty lemon twist, this timeless drink offers a sophisticated and satisfying sip for whiskey enthusiasts.
Ingredients
- 1 cube Sugar cube (Originally '1 lump of Sugar'. In cocktail context, this refers to a single sugar cube (approx 1 teaspoon), not a baking lump.)
- 1 teaspoon Water (Quantity estimated for dissolving the sugar.)
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 1 large piece Ice (Originally '1 lump of Ice'.)
- 2 1/4 ounces Bourbon Whiskey (Originally '1 1/2 jiggers'. Converted to modern measurement (1 jigger = 1.5 oz, so 1.5 * 1.5 = 2.25 oz).)
- 1 strip Lemon skin (For garnish.)
Instructions
- 1Place the sugar cube in a Toddy glass. Add the water and Angostura Bitters. Muddle or stir until the sugar is largely dissolved.
- 2Add the Bourbon Whiskey and the lump of ice to the glass.
- 3Twist the piece of lemon skin over the drink to release its oils, then drop it into the glass. Stir well to chill and dilute slightly before serving.
