- as needed Water (Quantity estimated (not specified in original recipe))
- 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
- from 1/2 lemon Lemon Rind, grated
- from 1/2 lemon Lemon Juice
- 4 slices Thick Sliced Bread (Quantity estimated (not specified in original recipe))
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 2/3 cup Heavy Cream
- 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
Instructions
- 1Wash the figs carefully. In a saucepan, cook the figs in boiling water until tender, approximately 10-15 minutes. Drain the water, reserving the figs.
- 2Add 1/4 cup of sugar, the grated rind, and juice of half a lemon to the cooked figs. Cook over medium heat until the syrup is well reduced and slightly thickened, about 5-10 minutes.
- 3Cut the crust from the bread slices. In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Sauté the bread slices until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- 4Drain the toast on soft paper. Heap the fig mixture onto the toast. In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream and 1/4 cup of sugar until stiff. Cover the figs with the whipped cream. Serve immediately.
