This simple rice recipe from a 1900 cookbook offers a comforting and classic side dish. The recipe uses basic ingredients and straightforward techniques, resulting in fluffy, perfectly cooked rice. Serve this versatile dish alongside your favorite entrees for a satisfying and complete meal.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Rice
  • 2 quarts Water
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Butter

Instructions

  1. 1Wash the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch, resulting in fluffier rice.
  2. 2Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Add the washed rice and salt. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
  3. 3Pour the cooked rice into a strainer and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process. Place the rice in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes to dry.
  4. 4Serve the rice warm, dotted with butter.
