Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons Baking powder
- 2 tablespoons Butter (or vegetable shortening) (Originally lard. Substituted with butter for modern preference. Can also use vegetable shortening for similar texture.)
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 cup Milk
- 2 tablespoons Peanut butter
- 3 tablespoons Currants
- 1/2 tablespoon Butter
Instructions
- 1In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Using a pastry blender or your fingers, cut in the butter (or shortening) until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the milk, mixing with a fork until a soft dough forms. Add more milk if needed, depending on the flour's consistency.
- 2On a lightly floured surface, pat the dough into a rectangular shape, about 1/2 inch thick. In a small bowl, cream the butter. Spread the creamed butter and peanut butter evenly over the dough. Sprinkle the currants on top. Roll up the dough carefully, like a cinnamon roll. Cut the roll into 1/2-inch-wide pieces.
- 3Place the cut rolls in a tin pan. Bake in a preheated moderate oven at 375°F (190°C) for 18 minutes, or until golden brown.
