Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb Maple sugar
  • 2 C Granulated sugar
  • 2/3 C Milk
  • 1/4 t Cream of tartar
  • 2 T Butter

Instructions

  1. 1In a medium saucepan, combine maple sugar, granulated sugar, milk, cream of tartar, and butter. Mix all the ingredients in the order named.
  2. 2Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the candy forms a soft ball when a small amount is dropped into a glass of cold water. This should take approximately 20-25 minutes.
  3. 3Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the fudge cool slightly. Once cooled, beat the fudge with a wooden spoon or a whisk until it becomes creamy and starts to lose its shine. This may take about 5 minutes.
  4. 4Pour the creamy fudge into a buttered plate or a shallow pan. Let it set at room temperature until firm. Cut into squares and serve.
