Creamed Turnips (Two portions)
This classic recipe transforms humble turnips into a creamy, comforting side dish. The turnips are first softened in boiling water, then combined with a rich, buttery sauce. Ingredients
- 1 cup Turnip cubes
- 1/3 teaspoon Salt
- 1 tablespoon Butter
- 1 tablespoon Flour
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 cup Milk
Instructions
- 1Peel the turnips. Cut into one-half inch cubes. Place the turnip cubes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for 10 minutes.
- 2Cook the turnip cubes in boiling water in an uncovered utensil until they are transparent. Drain the turnips and sprinkle with 1/3 teaspoon of salt.
- 3Melt the butter in a saucepan. Add the flour and 1/4 teaspoon of salt, blend well. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly, and cook until the sauce is creamy.
- 4Add the cooked turnips to the creamy sauce and stir to combine. Serve immediately.
