Baked Veal Steak
This classic Baked Veal Steak recipe offers a comforting and satisfying meal with a rich, savory flavor. The veal steak is coated in a seasoned flour mixture, browned to perfection, and then baked until tender. This simple yet elegant dish is perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 3/4 pound Veal steak
- 3 tablespoons All-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon Paprika
- 2 tablespoons Butter (or bacon fat) (Originally bacon fat. Substituted with butter for modern preference.)
- 2 tablespoons Water
Instructions
- 1Wipe the veal steak and trim off any rind.
- 2In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, salt, and paprika. Thoroughly roll the veal steak in this mixture, ensuring it's evenly coated.
- 3Heat the butter (or bacon fat) in a frying pan over medium-high heat until hot. Add the coated veal steak and brown thoroughly on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- 4Transfer the browned steak and any drippings from the pan to a small baking pan. Add the water, cover the pan with a lid or aluminum foil, and place in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C). Bake for 1 hour, or until the veal is tender. Add more water if necessary during baking to prevent the meat from drying out.
