Mung Bean Kheer/Cherupayar Payasam
Try this yummy and healthy payasam which is very simple to make!
Ingredients
- 1 cup Whole Mung Beans (Also known as Green Gram, Sabut Moong, Green Moong)
- 0.5 cup Sugar (Can substitute with jaggery solution)
- 0.5 teaspoon Cardamom Powder
- 0.5 teaspoon Cumin Powder (Also known as Jeera Powder)
- 2 tablespoons Coconut (Shredded)
- 1 cup Whole Milk
- 1 teaspoon Ghee
- 3 count Cashews
- 4 count Raisins
- 3 cups Water (For cooking mung beans)
Instructions
- 1Soak the green mung beans for 3-4 hours. Rinse thoroughly and place them in a pressure cooker with 3 cups of water. Cook for 4 whistles.
- 2Once the pressure is released, remove the lid and set the flame to low. Stir the cooked mung beans and lightly mash them with a spatula.
- 3Add cumin powder, shredded coconut, sugar, cardamom powder, and milk to the mung beans. Mix well and cook on medium heat until the mixture thickens.
- 4In a separate pan, heat ghee over medium flame. Add cashews and raisins, sauté until golden. Transfer to the mung bean payasam and mix well.
- 5Serve the delicious green mung bean payasam warm. Enjoy this delightful dessert!
