A simple and delicious Surmai fish fry recipe, taught by my sister-in-law, using minimal ingredients for a quick and flavorful dish.
Ingredients
- 500 grams Fish, Surmai (Surmai fish)
- 1.5 teaspoons Salt
- 2 tablespoons Red Chilli Powder
- 0.75 cup Sunflower Oil
Instructions
- 1Thoroughly wash the fish and drain all excess water. Once drained, mix the fish with salt and red chilli powder, ensuring an even coating. Set aside to marinate for 20 minutes.
- 2Heat sunflower oil in a tava over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the marinated fish into the oil, ensuring it is fully immersed. Fry the fish for approximately 20 minutes, turning occasionally, until it is golden brown and cooked through. Once fried, remove the fish and drain excess oil.

Best served hot with a squeeze of fresh lemon or alongside a mild lentil dish for a complete meal.
