Jeera Rice

Jeera or cumin seeds are used to prepare this flavorful Jeera Rice, which pairs excellently with a thick dal curry.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Basmati Rice
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 2 count Green Chillies (Slit lengthwise)
  • 1 count White Onions (Chopped)
  • 7 count Cashews (Roasted)
  • 4 tablespoons Ghee
  • 2 sprigs Coriander Leaves (For garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon Sunflower Oil
  • 1.5 cups Water (For cooking rice)
  • 1 to taste Salt

Instructions

  1. 1In a pressure cooker, combine the basmati rice with 1.5 cups of water, salt, and sunflower oil. Secure the lid and cook until two whistles are heard. Allow the cooker to cool naturally.
  2. 2While the rice is cooling, heat ghee in a pan. Add the cashews and roast until golden. Remove and set aside. In the same pan, add cumin seeds and slit green chillies. Sauté briefly until aromatic.
  3. 3Add the chopped onions to the pan and sauté until they become soft. Gently fold in the cooked rice, ensuring the grains remain intact. Garnish with coriander leaves and the roasted cashews.
