Use pearl onion or small onion found mostly in Kerala. Called Cheriya ulli in Malayalam.

Step 1
Keep khadai on stove. Fry mustard seeds. After it is fried add red chillies and fry.
Step 2
Add and fry pearl onion, Garlic cloves,and green chillies.
Step 3
Put off the flame. Put 3/4 th tsp Turmeric powder and 3/4th tsp Red chilli powder in the Khadai alongwith the fried mixture and stir.
Then put in Buttermilk and salt (to taste). Heat little and remove from fire. See to it that it does not boil.
Step 4
How to prepare buttermilk::
Blend curds in Mixie. Take out the bubbles that float on the surface of the curds.
While removing the bubbles little curds will also come with it. This may be kept in the freezer to use as butter for later.
Add little water to the remaining curds and mix.
