Step 1
Pour water into chana dal powder or basen & make it into batter. Batter should not be too thick or too thin.
Step 2
Next, add turmeric, red chilly powder, asafoetida, salt & coriander leaves into the batter.
Step 3
Also add cut onions - do not cut it into too fine pieces & add half of the cut onions into the batter & keep half quantity aside. Mix altogether, check the consistency of the batter.
Step 4
Keep a kadai on gas with oil in it & heat the oil nicely. Once the oil is hot reduce the flame to medium.
Step 5
Finally, add the remaining cut onions, mix again & put the onion-chana dal powder batter into the hot oil approx. 1 big tbsp (see photo attached) & deep fry them in oil & keep it aside for oil to drain out.
Step 6
Onion bhaji is ready to be served with sauce as a snack alongwith tea.
