Puff Pastry Turnovers with Jam or Preserves
Flaky, golden-brown puff pastry turnovers filled with sweet raspberry jam or aromatic mango preserves create a delightful teatime treat. These classic pastries feature a crisp, buttery crust that encases a warm, fruit-filled center, offering a perfect balance of textures in every bite. Best served warm from the oven, they can be customized with various fillings like dried fruits or traditional sweet bean paste for a unique twist.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Puff pastry (Store-bought or homemade. The original text refers to a specific puff paste recipe in the book.)
- 1/2 cup Raspberry jam or mango preserves (Original suggests raspberry jam, mango murabba (preserves), or a sweet lentil/mawa filling.)
- 2 tablespoons Water (For sealing the edges.)
- 1 tablespoon Butter (Melted, for brushing the tops.)
Instructions
- 1Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness (thin or thick depending on preference). Cut the dough into square pieces, approximately 4 to 5 inches wide.
- 3Place a spoonful of raspberry jam, mango preserves, or your chosen sweet filling in the center of each square. Apply a little water to the edges of the pastry squares. Fold the pastry over to form a triangle or rectangle, keeping the filled center slightly raised (domed). Press the edges firmly to seal.
- 4Using a sharp knife, trim the sealed edges to make them even, or crimp them for a decorative finish. Brush the tops of the pastries with melted butter.
- 5Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown. Serve warm.
