ORANGE CHIPS
These candied orange chips offer a delightful balance of sweet and tangy flavors, making them a unique and refreshing treat. The process involves simmering orange peel in a sugar syrup, resulting in a translucent, chewy texture with a burst of citrus. Perfect as a garnish, a sweet snack, or a homemade gift.
Ingredients
- 2 whole Oranges (Quantity estimated (not specified in original recipe))
- 1 tablespoon Salt (Quantity estimated (not specified in original recipe))
- 2 cups Granulated sugar
- 1 cup Water
- 1 sheet Waxed paper (Quantity estimated (not specified in original recipe))
Instructions
- 1After using the oranges, halve them and scoop out the flesh. Scrape the inside of the orange peels. Place the peels in a bowl of cold water with the salt and let them soak overnight to remove bitterness.
- 2In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Continue to boil until the syrup thickens slightly, about 5 minutes.
- 3Cut the orange peel into small strips. Drop the strips into the boiling syrup and let them simmer for about 10 minutes, until the peel becomes translucent.
- 4Carefully remove the candied orange peel strips from the syrup and spread them out on a sheet of waxed paper to dry completely. This may take several hours. Grapefruit rind can be used in the same way.
