Warm Plaster (Historical Medicinal Preparation)
A historical medicinal plaster made from blistering plaster and Burgundy pitch, used as a topical stimulant for respiratory and pain conditions. This recipe is for historical reference only and should not be prepared or used without consulting medical professionals.
Ingredients
- 1 part Blistering plaster (cantharides plaster) (Historical ingredient - contains cantharidin, a toxic substance. Not for modern use.)
- 14 parts Burgundy pitch (resin from Norway spruce) (Historical medicinal resin)
Instructions
- 1Measure out 1 part blistering plaster and 14 parts Burgundy pitch. Ensure all materials are ready for melting.
- 2Place both ingredients in a heat-safe container and apply moderate heat. Melt the blistering plaster and Burgundy pitch together, stirring occasionally to ensure even melting.
- 3Once fully melted, mix the ingredients thoroughly to create a uniform plaster consistency. Ensure the blistering plaster and Burgundy pitch are completely combined.
- 4Allow the plaster to cool to a workable consistency. The finished plaster should be stimulant in nature and create slight irritation when applied. Historically used for common cough, whooping cough, sciatica, and local pain.
