Stain Remover for Black Mourning Fabrics
A natural fig leaf solution for removing stains from delicate black fabrics like bombazine, crape, and cloth. This gentle method uses boiled fig leaves to create an effective cleaning liquid that instantly lifts stains without damaging mourning dress materials.
Ingredients
- 1 handful (about 10-12 leaves) Fresh fig leaves (Fresh or dried fig leaves work; fresh preferred)
- 2 quarts Water (Will be reduced to 1 pint through boiling)
- 1 piece Clean sponge or soft cloth (For applying the solution)
Instructions
- 1Gather a handful of fig leaves (about 10-12 leaves). Rinse them briefly under cool water to remove any dirt or debris.
- 2Place the fig leaves in a pot with 2 quarts of water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium heat and continue boiling until the liquid has reduced to 1 pint (about half the original volume).
- 3Remove the pot from heat and strain out the fig leaves. Allow the liquid to cool to room temperature before using.
- 4Before treating visible stains, test the solution on a hidden area of the fabric (such as an inside seam or hem) to ensure it does not affect the color or texture.
- 5Dip a clean sponge or soft cloth into the fig leaf solution. Gently rub the stained areas of the bombazine, crape, or cloth fabric. The stains should lift instantly. Work from the outside of the stain toward the center to prevent spreading.
- 6After treating the stains, blot the area with a clean, dry cloth to remove excess moisture. Allow the fabric to air dry completely away from direct heat or sunlight.
