Remedy for Sprains
A traditional topical liniment combining camphorated spirit, vinegar, and turpentine for external application to sprains and strains. This historical remedy should be used with caution and is not a substitute for modern medical treatment.
Ingredients
- 1 ounce Camphorated spirit (camphor oil) (Available at pharmacies; also called camphor oil)
- 1 ounce Common vinegar (white or apple cider vinegar) (White distilled vinegar or apple cider vinegar)
- 1 ounce Spirits of turpentine (Pure gum spirits of turpentine; for external use only)
Instructions
- 1Measure out 1 ounce each of camphorated spirit, common vinegar, and spirits of turpentine into separate containers
- 2Pour all three ingredients into a clean glass bottle with a tight-fitting lid
- 3Secure the lid tightly and shake the bottle vigorously for 30 seconds to thoroughly combine all ingredients into a uniform mixture
- 4Store in a cool, dark place. To use, shake well before each application and apply a small amount to the affected area using a clean cloth. For external use only. Do not apply to broken skin. Discontinue use if irritation occurs and consult a healthcare professional for serious injuries
