Metal to Glass or Porcelain Adhesive Cement
A traditional adhesive cement for bonding metal to glass or porcelain surfaces, made from glue solution, linseed oil varnish, and turpentine. Requires 48-60 hours curing time.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces Thick glue solution (Use a concentrated hide glue or gelatin solution)
- 1 ounce Linseed oil varnish (Can substitute with 0.75 ounce Venice turpentine)
Instructions
- 1Measure 2 ounces of thick glue solution and 1 ounce of linseed oil varnish (or 0.75 ounce Venice turpentine) into a heat-safe container
- 2Place the container over heat and bring to a boil while continuously stirring and agitating the mixture until it becomes as thoroughly combined and homogeneous as possible
- 3Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly until workable. Apply the warm cement to the clean, dry surfaces of the metal and glass or porcelain pieces to be joined
- 4Press the cemented pieces firmly together and secure with clamps, tape, or other fastening method. Keep fastened and undisturbed for 48 to 60 hours to allow complete curing
