Lime Liniment for Burns and Scalds
A traditional topical liniment made from equal parts oil and lime water, used for treating minor burns and scalds. This preparation should be shaken well before each application.
Ingredients
- 4 fluid ounces Linseed oil or olive oil (Common olive oil works well as a substitute for linseed oil)
- 4 fluid ounces Lime water (calcium hydroxide solution) (Available at pharmacies; also called calcium hydroxide topical solution)
Instructions
- 1Measure out equal parts of linseed oil (or olive oil) and lime water. For a standard batch, use 4 fluid ounces of each ingredient.
- 2Pour both the oil and lime water into a clean bottle with a tight-fitting lid or stopper.
- 3Secure the lid tightly and shake the bottle vigorously for 1-2 minutes until the oil and lime water are well mixed and form an emulsion.
- 4Before each application, shake the bottle well to re-emulsify the mixture, as the oil and water will separate when standing. Apply gently to affected areas as needed.
