Lentil Porridge
A simple, restorative porridge made from lentil flour simmered in water and seasoned with salt and pepper. This dish serves as a light meal or a base for a heartier soup.
Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons Lentil flour (such as gram flour/besan or ground red lentils) (Sifted to remove lumps)
- 1 quart Water (Approximately 4 cups or 1 liter)
- 1 teaspoon Salt (Adjust to taste)
- 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper, ground (Adjust to taste)
Instructions
- 1In a small bowl, whisk the lentil flour with about 1 cup of the cold water until completely smooth and free of lumps.
- 2Pour the remaining 3 cups of water into a saucepan. Whisk in the lentil slurry. Place over medium-high heat and bring to a boil, stirring frequently to prevent the flour from settling or sticking to the bottom.
- 3Once boiling, reduce the heat to low. Let the porridge simmer gently for 15 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
- 4Remove from heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.
