Lavender Water
A fragrant lavender water perfume made by blending essential oils with spirits and water. This aromatic preparation requires a week of steeping to develop its full scent profile.
Ingredients
- 2 drachms Oil of lavender (essential oil) (Approximately 7.5 ml or 1.5 teaspoons)
- 0.5 drachm Oil of bergamot (essential oil) (Approximately 1.9 ml or 0.4 teaspoon)
- 1 drachm Essence of musk (Approximately 3.75 ml or 0.75 teaspoon; can substitute with synthetic musk oil)
- 13 ounces Spirits of wine (high-proof alcohol) (Approximately 385 ml; use vodka 80-proof or higher, or perfumer's alcohol)
- 5 ounces Water, distilled (Approximately 150 ml)
Instructions
- 1In a clean glass bottle or jar, measure and add the oil of lavender, oil of bergamot, and essence of musk. Swirl gently to combine the oils.
- 2Pour the spirits of wine into the bottle with the essential oils, followed by the distilled water. Seal the bottle tightly with the lid.
- 3Shake the bottle vigorously for 1-2 minutes to thoroughly blend all ingredients together. The mixture should become cloudy or milky in appearance.
- 4Store the sealed bottle in a cool, dark place for one week to allow the scents to mature and blend. Shake the bottle once daily during this period.
- 5After one week, strain the lavender water through a coffee filter or fine cheesecloth into a clean decorative bottle. The lavender water is now ready to use as a perfume or room spray.
