Japanese Rice Paste (Traditional Adhesive)
A traditional white adhesive paste made from rice flour and water that dries nearly transparent. Ideal for paper crafts, bookbinding, and delicate repair work.
Ingredients
- 0.25 cup Rice flour (White rice flour works best for a beautifully white paste)
- 0.5 cup Cold water (Start with cold water to prevent lumps)

Instructions
- 1In a small saucepan, thoroughly mix the rice flour with cold water until completely smooth with no lumps. Stir vigorously to create a uniform mixture.
- 2Place the saucepan over medium-low heat and bring to a gentle boil, stirring constantly to prevent scorching or lumps from forming. The mixture will thicken and become translucent as it heats.
- 3Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature. The paste will thicken further as it cools. Transfer to a clean container with a lid. Use while still fresh, applying with a brush or spatula. The paste dries beautifully white and almost transparent.
