Homemade Tooth Cleaning Solution
A traditional dental care solution made with borax, myrrh, and camphor to clean and whiten teeth. Note: This is a historical recipe and modern commercial toothpastes are recommended for dental care. Consult a dentist before using homemade dental products.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces Borax (Approximately 4 tablespoons)
- 3 pints Water, boiling (Approximately 6 cups)
- 1 teaspoon Tincture of myrrh
- 1 tablespoon Spirits of camphor
- 0.5 pint Tepid water, for dilution (Approximately 1 cup, for each application)
Instructions
- 1Bring 3 pints of water to a boil. Add 2 ounces of borax to the boiling water and stir until completely dissolved.
- 2Allow the borax solution to cool until it is warm but not quite cold to the touch.
- 3Once the solution has cooled but before it is completely cold, add 1 teaspoon of tincture of myrrh and 1 tablespoon of spirits of camphor. Stir well to combine.
- 4Transfer the completed solution into clean bottles for storage. Seal tightly.
- 5For each application, measure out one wineglassful (approximately 2 ounces or 4 tablespoons) of the solution and mix it with half a pint (1 cup) of tepid water.
- 6Use the diluted solution as a mouth rinse, swishing around teeth and gums. Apply daily for cleaning and whitening teeth.
