Essence of Roses
A fragrant rose essence made by combining rose essential oil with high-proof alcohol, perfect for perfuming or adding to cosmetic preparations.
Ingredients
- 2 drachms (approximately 1/4 teaspoon or 7 ml) Otto of roses (rose essential oil) (Also known as rose essential oil or attar of roses)
- 1 pint (approximately 2 cups or 475 ml) Rectified spirits of wine (high-proof alcohol) (Use 190-proof grain alcohol or vodka (at least 80-proof); rectified spirits refers to highly purified ethanol)
Instructions
- 1Measure out 1/4 teaspoon (7 ml) of rose essential oil and 2 cups (475 ml) of high-proof alcohol into separate containers.
- 2Pour the high-proof alcohol into a clean glass bottle. Add the rose essential oil to the alcohol.
- 3Cap the bottle tightly and shake vigorously for 1-2 minutes to thoroughly combine the rose oil with the alcohol until fully mixed.
- 4Store the rose essence in a cool, dark place in the tightly capped glass bottle. The essence is ready to use immediately but will improve with age.
