Betel Nut Tooth Powder

Betel Nut Tooth Powder

A traditional natural tooth powder made from properly roasted betel nuts, ground to a fine chocolate-colored powder. Can be enhanced with tincture of myrrh, camphor, and eau de Cologne for additional benefits.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces Betel nuts, sliced (Fresh betel nuts, not pre-roasted)
  • 1 teaspoon Tincture of myrrh (Optional enhancement)
  • 1 teaspoon Tincture of camphor (Optional enhancement)
  • 1 teaspoon Eau de Cologne (Optional enhancement)

Instructions

  1. 1Slice the betel nuts thinly to prepare them for roasting. Do not burn or char them.
  2. 2Roast the sliced betel nuts like coffee beans to a rich brown color, not black. Monitor carefully to achieve a chocolate-brown color, not charcoal black.
  3. 3Allow the roasted betel nuts to cool completely before grinding.
  4. 4Grind the cooled roasted betel nuts into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle or spice grinder.
  5. 5Pass the ground powder through fine muslin cloth to separate the fine powder from any grit or coarse particles.
  6. 6Take the grit that remained in the muslin and re-grind it, then sift again through muslin. Repeat this process until all powder passes through the muslin and achieves a fine, chocolate-colored consistency.
  7. 7If desired, add tincture of myrrh, tincture of camphor, and eau de Cologne to the finished powder. Mix thoroughly to combine.
  8. 8Transfer the finished tooth powder to an airtight container for storage. Use a small amount on a damp toothbrush for daily dental care.

Traditional Ginger and Edible Gum Confection (Gundar No. 3)

A traditional restorative preparation from the Parsi kitchen, combining the warming properties of fresh ginger juice with the strengthening qualities of edible gum (gundar) and rich ghee. Unlike quick-cooked sweets, this unique "pak" is cured for 40 days, allowing the sugar and ginger juice to meld into a potent, flavorful confection often used for winter warmth or postpartum recovery. The result is a dense, aromatic treat spiced with cardamom and nutmeg that improves with age.
