Antidiarrheal Chalk Mixture (Historical Medical Recipe)
A historical 19th-century medicinal preparation for treating diarrhea and intestinal discomfort. This recipe is for historical reference only and should NOT be prepared or consumed. Modern medical treatments are far safer and more effective.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces Chalk mixture (calcium carbonate suspension) (Historical pharmaceutical preparation - do not use)
- 1 drachm Aromatic confection (Approximately 3.9 grams - historical pharmaceutical ingredient)
- 3 drachms Compound tincture of camphor (Approximately 11.7 grams - toxic if consumed improperly)
- 3 drops Oil of caraways (caraway essential oil) (Can use 3-4 drops)
Instructions
- 1Measure out 8 ounces of chalk mixture into a clean mixing vessel
- 2Add 1 drachm of aromatic confection to the chalk mixture
- 3Add 3 drachms of compound tincture of camphor to the mixture
- 4Add 3 to 4 drops of oil of caraways to the mixture
- 5Stir or shake all ingredients together thoroughly until well combined
- 6Historical dosage (DO NOT USE): Adults take 2 tablespoonfuls every 3 hours or more frequently if symptoms are urgent. Young children: 1 teaspoonful. Children 10-12 years: 1 tablespoonful. MODERN WARNING: Do not prepare or consume this historical remedy. Consult a medical professional for treatment of diarrhea or digestive issues.
