Anti-Inflammatory Embrocation for Bruises and Sprains
A soothing topical liniment combining acetate of ammonia solution and soap liniment, specifically formulated for treating bruises and sprains accompanied by inflammation. This historical remedy provides cooling relief to inflamed tissues.
Ingredients
- 1 ounce Solution of acetate of ammonia (Also known as spirit of Mindererus; available from compounding pharmacies)
- 1 ounce Soap liniment (Also called linimentum saponis; a traditional emollient base)
Instructions
- 1Measure out 1 ounce of solution of acetate of ammonia and 1 ounce of soap liniment into separate clean containers.
- 2Pour both the acetate of ammonia solution and soap liniment into a clean glass bottle or container.
- 3Cap the bottle securely and shake vigorously for 1-2 minutes until the two liquids are completely combined and uniform in appearance.
- 4Apply the embrocation to bruised or sprained areas that show signs of inflammation (redness, heat, swelling). Gently rub into the skin. Use 2-3 times daily as needed. Store in a cool, dark place between applications.
