WHISKEY SCOTCH HOT
This warming historical cocktail combines the smoky depth of Scotch whisky with the comforting sweetness of sugar and hot water, creating a perfect beverage for cold evenings. The simple yet elegant preparation is brightened by fresh lemon peel and finished with a dusting of aromatic nutmeg for a cozy, spicy aroma. Ideally served in a heat-proof glass, this hot toddy variation offers a soothing balance of warmth and flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon Granulated sugar (or 1 sugar cube) (Originally '1 lump Sugar'. In this cocktail context, a lump refers to a sugar cube or teaspoon, not the larger historical cooking measure.)
- 1.5 ounces Scotch Whiskey (Originally '1 jigger'. Converted to modern measurement (1 jigger = 1.5 fl oz).)
- 4 ounces Hot water (Quantity estimated to fill a standard hot whiskey glass.)
- 1 slice Lemon peel
- 1 pinch Nutmeg (Freshly grated preferred.)
Instructions
- 1Place the sugar in a heat-proof whiskey glass. Add a small splash of the hot water and stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- 2Pour in the Scotch Whiskey, then fill the glass to the top with the remaining hot water.
- 3Add the slice of lemon peel to the glass. Stir gently to combine. Finish by sprinkling grated nutmeg on top and serve immediately while hot.
