DIXIE COCKTAIL

DIXIE COCKTAIL

This sophisticated variation on the classic Whiskey Cocktail introduces a subtle complexity with the addition of orange liqueur and a whisper of mint. The rich warmth of rye or bourbon is perfectly balanced by the sweet citrus notes of Curacao and the refreshing, barely-there cooling sensation of Crème de Menthe. Served in a chilled glass, this 1917 creation offers an elegant and aromatic sipping experience perfect for evening enjoyment.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Rye whiskey or Bourbon (Base for the 'plain Whiskey Cocktail'. Quantity estimated as standard cocktail pour (1 jigger).)
  • 1 teaspoon Simple syrup (Sweetener for the 'plain Whiskey Cocktail'. Can substitute with gum syrup or a sugar cube.)
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters (Standard aromatic bitters for a Whiskey Cocktail.)
  • 1 dash Curacao (orange liqueur) (Adds a sweet orange note.)
  • 6 drops Creme de Menthe (Use a dropper for precision; adds a very subtle mint finish.)
  • 1 cup Ice (For mixing and chilling. Quantity estimated.)
  • 1 piece Lemon twist (Standard garnish for a Whiskey Cocktail.)

Instructions

  1. 1Chill a cocktail coupe or rocks glass by placing it in the freezer or filling it with ice water while you prepare the drink.
  2. 2In a mixing glass filled with ice, combine the whiskey, simple syrup, Angostura bitters, Curacao, and Creme de Menthe.
  3. 3Stir the mixture gently with a bar spoon for about 30 seconds until well-chilled. Strain into the prepared chilled glass.
  4. 4Express the oils from a lemon twist over the drink and drop it into the glass to serve.
