BLUE BLAZER

BLUE BLAZER

This spectacular classic cocktail is a dramatic showstopper featuring Scotch whiskey set ablaze and poured between two mugs to create a continuous stream of blue fire. Traditionally served with a twist of lemon peel for a bright aromatic finish, it is an elegant and warming choice for cold winter evenings.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. 1Ensure you have two heat-resistant mugs (silver or pewter are traditional and preferred, but thick heat-proof ceramic works) and a long lighter. Clear the area of any flammable items.
  2. 2In one of the mugs, combine the bar sugar and boiling water. Stir briefly until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  3. 3Add the Scotch whiskey to the mug with the dissolved sugar. Carefully ignite the mixture using a long match or lighter. CAUTION: The flame may be faint blue and hard to see; handle with extreme care.
  4. 4While the mixture is blazing, carefully pour it from one mug to the other. Repeat this motion 4 to 5 times, increasing the distance between the mugs as you pour to create a continuous stream of blue fire. This mixes the ingredients and aerates the drink.
  5. 5Pour the finished drink into a heat-proof glass or mug. Twist the lemon peel over the top to release its oils, then drop it into the drink as a garnish. Serve immediately while hot.
