ALE SANGAREE
This classic Ale Sangaree is a refreshing and simple cocktail that elevates a standard pint with a touch of sweetness and spice. By dissolving fine bar sugar into the ale and finishing with a dusting of freshly grated nutmeg, the drink gains a smoother mouthfeel and an aromatic, warming finish. It serves as an excellent, historically authentic way to enjoy your favorite ale with a sophisticated twist.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon Superfine sugar (Originally '1 teaspoonful Bar Sugar'. Superfine sugar dissolves more easily in cold liquids.)
- 1 teaspoon Water (Quantity estimated. A splash of water helps dissolve the sugar before adding the ale.)
- 12 ounces Ale (Or enough to fill the glass. A malty ale works best.)
- 1 pinch Nutmeg (Freshly grated.)
Instructions
- 1In a chilled ale glass or pint glass, combine the superfine sugar with the teaspoon of water. Stir vigorously until the sugar is mostly dissolved to prevent a gritty texture at the bottom of the drink.
- 2Pour the ale into the glass, filling it to the top. Stir gently to combine the sweetened base with the beer, then dust the top with freshly grated nutmeg and serve immediately.
