Whole Wheat and White Flour Bread
A simple loaf bread recipe using a combination of whole wheat and white flour. This recipe is designed for beginners and focuses on hand-shaping the loaves.
Instructions
- 1If using yeast, dissolve it in 1/4 cup of the lukewarm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- 2In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. If using the yeast mixture, add it to the flour along with the remaining water. If not using yeast, simply add all the water to the flour and salt.
- 3Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it forms a smooth, elastic ball. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time. If it's too dry, add a little more water, one tablespoon at a time.
- 4Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap or a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes, or up to 1 hour. This allows the gluten to relax and makes the bread easier to shape.
- 5Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Shape the dough into a round or oblong loaf. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- 6Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
