Sweet Milk Sticks

Sweet Milk Sticks

A simple recipe for sweet milk sticks, perfect for a light snack or accompaniment to tea or coffee.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Milk (Scalded)
  • 0.25 cup Butter (Unsalted)
  • 1.5 tablespoons Sugar (Granulated)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt (Table salt)
  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour (For dough)
  • 1 teaspoon Active dry yeast (For dough)

Instructions

  1. 1In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. 2In a mixing bowl, combine the scalded milk, butter, sugar, and salt. Stir until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved.
  3. 3Add the yeast to the milk mixture and let it sit for 5 minutes to activate. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. 4Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  5. 5Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long, thin stick (about 6-8 inches long).
  6. 6Place the sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. 7Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before serving.
