Sweet Milk Sticks
A simple recipe for sweet milk sticks, perfect for a light snack or accompaniment to tea or coffee.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Milk (Scalded)
- 0.25 cup Butter (Unsalted)
- 1.5 tablespoons Sugar (Granulated)
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt (Table salt)
- 2.5 cups All-purpose flour (For dough)
- 1 teaspoon Active dry yeast (For dough)
Instructions
- 1In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- 2In a mixing bowl, combine the scalded milk, butter, sugar, and salt. Stir until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved.
- 3Add the yeast to the milk mixture and let it sit for 5 minutes to activate. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- 4Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- 5Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long, thin stick (about 6-8 inches long).
- 6Place the sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 7Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before serving.
