Sweet Dough Biscuits

Sweet Dough Biscuits

A simple recipe for sweet dough biscuits, perfect for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

  • 0.25 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 0.25 ounce Active Dry Yeast (About 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour (Approximately, plus more for kneading)
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted Butter (Softened)
  • 1 Egg (Large, lightly beaten)
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon Rind (Grated)

Instructions

  1. 1In a small bowl, combine the sugar, salt, and milk. Heat slightly until lukewarm (about 100-110°F or 38-43°C). Sprinkle the yeast over the warm milk mixture and let stand for 5-10 minutes, or until foamy.
  2. 2In a large bowl, add 3/4 cup of flour to the yeast mixture. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  3. 3Add the softened butter, beaten egg, and grated lemon rind to the dough. Gradually add enough of the remaining flour (about 2 cups) to form a soft dough. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. 4Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  5. 5Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out biscuits using a small biscuit cutter (about 2 inches in diameter).
  6. 6Place the biscuits close together in a buttered baking pan. Cover and let rise again for about 15 minutes.
  7. 7Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
