Sweet Dough Biscuits
A simple recipe for sweet dough biscuits, perfect for breakfast or a snack.
Ingredients
- 0.25 cup Granulated Sugar
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt
- 0.5 cup Milk
- 0.25 ounce Active Dry Yeast (About 2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 3 cups All-Purpose Flour (Approximately, plus more for kneading)
- 0.25 cup Unsalted Butter (Softened)
- 1 Egg (Large, lightly beaten)
- 1 teaspoon Lemon Rind (Grated)
Instructions
- 1In a small bowl, combine the sugar, salt, and milk. Heat slightly until lukewarm (about 100-110°F or 38-43°C). Sprinkle the yeast over the warm milk mixture and let stand for 5-10 minutes, or until foamy.
- 2In a large bowl, add 3/4 cup of flour to the yeast mixture. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- 3Add the softened butter, beaten egg, and grated lemon rind to the dough. Gradually add enough of the remaining flour (about 2 cups) to form a soft dough. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- 4Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- 5Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out biscuits using a small biscuit cutter (about 2 inches in diameter).
- 6Place the biscuits close together in a buttered baking pan. Cover and let rise again for about 15 minutes.
- 7Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
