Steamed Raisin Pudding with Wine Sauce

A classic steamed raisin pudding, perfect for a cozy dessert. Served with a homemade wine sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Raisins (Seeded and cut in pieces)
  • 0.5 cup Butter (Melted)
  • 0.5 cup Molasses
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 1 Egg (Well beaten)
  • 1.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 0.25 tsp Salt
  • 1 batch Wine Sauce (See recipe below)
  • 2 tbsp Butter (For greasing the mold)
  • 0.5 cup Sugar (For wine sauce)
  • 0.25 cup Butter (For wine sauce)
  • 0.25 cup Water (For wine sauce)
  • 0.25 cup Dry white wine (For wine sauce)
  • 0.125 tsp Ground nutmeg (For wine sauce)

Instructions

  1. 1If using raisins with seeds, remove them. Cut the raisins into smaller pieces.
  2. 2In a large bowl, melt the butter. Add the molasses, milk, and well-beaten egg. Mix until well combined.
  3. 3In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. 4Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. 5Fold in the prepared raisins.
  6. 6Grease a pudding mold or heat-safe bowl with butter.
  7. 7Pour the batter into the prepared mold, cover tightly with a lid or foil, and steam for 2 1/2 hours. To steam, place the mold in a large pot with enough water to come halfway up the sides of the mold. Keep the water simmering gently throughout the steaming process.
  8. 8While the pudding is steaming, prepare the wine sauce. In a saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved and butter is melted. Remove from heat and stir in the wine and nutmeg.
  9. 9Once the pudding is cooked, let it cool slightly before inverting it onto a serving plate. Serve warm with the wine sauce.
