Steamed Allspice Raisin Pudding

Steamed Allspice Raisin Pudding

A simple steamed pudding flavored with allspice and raisins. This recipe modernizes an older recipe, providing clear instructions for a delicious dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon Ground Allspice
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1.5 cups Raisins (Use seedless raisins)
  • 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour (Plus extra for dusting)
  • 0.5 cup Butter, softened
  • 0.5 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 0.25 cup Milk

Instructions

  1. 1If using raisins with seeds, remove the seeds. Chop the raisins into smaller pieces. Dust the chopped raisins with 1 tablespoon of flour to prevent them from sinking to the bottom of the pudding during steaming.
  2. 2In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. 3Beat in the eggs one at a time, then gradually stir in the milk.
  4. 4In a separate bowl, whisk together the allspice, cinnamon, and remaining flour. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. 5Gently fold in the floured raisins until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  6. 6Grease a pudding basin or heat-safe bowl with butter. Pour the batter into the prepared basin.
  7. 7Cover the basin tightly with foil or parchment paper secured with string. Place the basin in a steamer over simmering water. Steam for 1.5 hours, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Replenish water as needed.
  8. 8Remove the pudding from the steamer and let it cool slightly before inverting it onto a serving plate. Serve warm or at room temperature.
