Spiced Bread Crumb Pudding
A simple bread crumb pudding with warm spices and nuts. Zweiback is a type of crisp, sweetened bread, often used for rusks or toast. This recipe uses stale bread crumbs, milk, sugar, spices, and nuts to create a comforting dessert.
Ingredients
- 2.5 cups Stale bread crumbs (From Zweiback or other bread)
- 0.75 cup Milk (Whole milk recommended)
- 1 cup Brown sugar (Packed)
- 1 teaspoon Salt (Table salt)
- 0.75 teaspoon Cinnamon (Ground cinnamon)
- 0.5 teaspoon Nutmeg (Freshly grated)
- 0.5 cup English walnut meats (Chopped)
- 2 tablespoons Butter (Unsalted, melted)
Instructions
- 1If using Zweiback or other bread, ensure it is stale and dry. Crumble or process into fine crumbs. If using pre-made breadcrumbs, ensure they are plain and unseasoned.
- 2In a large bowl, combine the bread crumbs, milk, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.
- 3Stir in the chopped English walnuts.
- 4Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish (8x8 inch or similar) with butter.
- 5Pour the bread crumb mixture into the prepared baking dish. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the top. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and set.
