Simple White Sauce
A basic white sauce, perfect for thickening soups or serving over toast.
Ingredients
- 2.5 tablespoons Bread flour
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt
- 0.25 cup Cold water (Approximately, or as needed)
- 6 slices Dry toast
- 1 cup Milk
- 1 tablespoon Butter
Instructions
- 1In a small bowl, gradually add cold water to the bread flour, mixing until you have a smooth, thin paste. Ensure there are no lumps.
- 2In a saucepan, add the flour paste to the milk. Stir constantly over medium heat until the sauce thickens. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Once thickened, reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 3After 20 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the salt and butter in small pieces. Stir until the butter is melted and the salt is fully dissolved.
- 4Dip slices of dry toast separately in the sauce until soft. Remove the softened toast to a serving dish. Pour any remaining sauce over the toast and serve immediately.
