Simple Tomato Sauce
A basic tomato sauce using stewed and strained tomatoes, perfect as a base for pasta dishes or other sauces.
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups Stewed and strained tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
- 0.25 teaspoon Salt (Or to taste)
- 0.125 teaspoon Black pepper (Or to taste)
- 1 teaspoon Sugar (Optional, to balance acidity)
Instructions
- 1In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- 2Add the flour to the melted butter and whisk constantly until a smooth paste forms. Cook for 1-2 minutes to cook out the raw flour taste.
- 3Gradually pour in the stewed and strained tomatoes, whisking continuously to prevent lumps from forming.
- 4Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Season with salt, pepper, and sugar (if using). Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
