Salad Sticks
Crispy and savory salad sticks, perfect for snacking or serving with dips. This recipe uses a simple dough, shaped into sticks, and baked until golden brown.
Ingredients
- 3 cups All-purpose flour
- 1.5 cups Warm water
- 1 teaspoon Active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon Sugar
- 2 teaspoons Salt (Plus extra for sprinkling)
- 1 Egg yolk (Optional, for glazing)
- 0.5 tablespoon Cold water (Optional, for glazing)
Instructions
- 1In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand for 5-10 minutes, or until foamy.
- 2In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and mix until a shaggy dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- 3Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- 4Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions. Roll each portion into a long, thin stick (about 1/2 inch thick). Place the sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 5Cover the baking sheet with a clean kitchen towel and let the sticks rise for another 20-30 minutes.
- 6Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). If glazing, whisk together the egg yolk and cold water.
- 7Sprinkle the sticks with salt. If glazing, brush the egg yolk mixture over the sticks. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 8Let the salad sticks cool on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy!
