Rolled Oats Bread

Rolled Oats Bread

A simple and hearty bread made with rolled oats, perfect for breakfast or as a side to soups and stews.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Rolled Oats
  • 1.5 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1.5 cups Warm Water (About 105-115°F (40-46°C))
  • 2 tablespoons Honey
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant Yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil (Plus more for greasing the pan)

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, combine the rolled oats and warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes to soften the oats.
  2. 2Add the honey, instant yeast, salt, and vegetable oil to the oat mixture. Stir well to combine.
  3. 3Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the mixture, mixing until a dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. 4Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place for 60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  5. 5Punch down the dough to release the air. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  6. 6Cover the loaf pan with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. 7Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the loaf is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  8. 8Remove the bread from the loaf pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
