Perfectly Boiled Beets
A simple and reliable method for boiling beets until tender, ensuring easy peeling and delicious flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Beets (About 4 medium beets)
- 6 cups Water (Enough to cover the beets)
Instructions
- 1Thoroughly wash the beets under cold running water, removing any dirt or debris. Do not peel or trim the beets at this stage.
- 2Place the washed beets in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pot, and simmer until the beets are tender. The cooking time will vary depending on the size and age of the beets, ranging from 30 minutes to 1 hour or more. Check for doneness by piercing a beet with a fork or knife; it should slide in easily when the beets are ready.
- 3Once the beets are tender, drain them and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water. This will stop the cooking process and make it easier to peel the beets. Let the beets cool in the ice water for a few minutes, then use your fingers or a small knife to gently rub or peel off the skins. The skins should slip off easily.
- 4Cut the peeled beets into quarters or slices, and serve warm or cold. Boiled beets can be enjoyed as a side dish, added to salads, or pickled.
