Peanut Nougat
A simple peanut nougat recipe with a focus on achieving the right sugar consistency for a delightful treat.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar (Original recipe calls for 1 lb, adjusted for modern portions)
- 1 cup Roasted Peanuts (Original recipe calls for 1 quart, adjusted for modern portions)
- 0.25 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Butter (For greasing the pan)
Instructions
- 1If using raw peanuts, shell and remove skins. Finely chop the peanuts and sprinkle with salt.
- 2Place the sugar in a perfectly smooth, heavy-bottomed saucepan. Place on the stove over medium heat and stir constantly until melted to a syrup, taking care to keep sugar from sides of pan. This will take approximately 10-15 minutes.
- 3Add the chopped peanuts to the melted sugar and stir quickly to combine. Pour the mixture at once into a warm, buttered 8x8 inch tin. Mark into small squares while still warm.
- 4Let the nougat cool completely before breaking into squares and serving.
